What’s my focus?
I’ve been curious about a few ‘big issues’ in the policy landscape, and lucky enough to find ways to explore them.
I started my career as a diplomat and trade policy adviser, before moving on to a PhD in political economy and political science (Globalisation, the state and regional Australia: a case study of the Shoalhaven region). I dived deep into some big questions: How do Australian governments mediate global economic forces? What happens when an industry faces a seismic shift in its operating environment? And why do governments intervene to protect some industries and communities, but not others?
While completing the PhD, I was offered a communications role in the early years sector, writing about the new National Quality Standard. For a policy analyst (and a mum of young children), it was a lightbulb moment. More than a decade later, I’m still firmly planted in the early years sector, where we grow Australia’s future.
Making sure that every child has a great start in life, supported by strong families and communities, might be the most important thing that any of us can do.
How can I help you?
I work with organisations that are committed to a better future for our children, and for the people and communities who nurture them.
I specialise in analysis, strategy and planning for action, supporting you to pursue your goals.
Analysis
- Where is the ‘energy’ in the early years system right now? Which way is it flowing, and who’s driving it?
- Where are you located in the policy and investment landscape, and where do you want to be?
- What are your unique capacities to improve the lives of people and communities?
Strategy
- Why should policymakers and funders care about what you do?
- Who needs to hear your story?
Planning for action
- What can you do to shape the decisions – big and small – that matter for your mission?
- How can you demonstrate the impact of your organisation’s work?
